Unveiled at IFEX 2026: Kantung Semar – A Sculptural Light by MM Galleri & Designer Eugenio Hendro

Insights Kantung Semar

Reimagines the lounge as a living form, draws inspiration from the morphology of pitcher plant: odd, mysterious, intriguing, and subtly inviting. Its spatial form echoes the natural mechanism: inviting from the outside, immersive within. Visitors are instinctively drawn in attracted by curiosity, captivated by experience.

Through this metaphor, the lounge showcase how two primal materials, wood and stone, can transcend expectation, proving that what is natural can also be extraordinary.

Discovering The Designer

For Eugenio Hendro, design has always been about exploration, about understanding materials, processes, and the stories they can tell. For more than 15 years, he has worked across diverse areas of product design, seeking inspiration far beyond the discipline itself. Trained in Industrial Design at Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB), he brings together contemporary technology and craftsmanship to create works that celebrate the natural voice of materials.

His works have been showcased on international platforms such as New York Now, Asia Talent, Salone del Mobile, and Maison & Object, and he was honored as Hospitality Indonesia Gold Designer 2019.

Rooted in Indonesia’s rich cultural landscape and shaped by his formative years in Manado, North Sulawesi, his designs emerge from a deep sensitivity to people, environment, and the evolving times. Tradition and contemporary perspectives meet organically in his creations forming objects that are understated, distinctive, and layered with quiet meaning.
