Since 2002, 8MM has sliced natural stone to 8mm and thinner, laminated to a lighter backing — the character of a rare slab on walls, ceilings, furniture and light, without its weight.
Solid stone asks a great deal of the structure behind it. A full slab brings all of its weight to every wall and ceiling it covers, which puts tall walls, ceilings, furniture and lighting out of reach for many heavier or rarer stones.
In 2002, MM Galleri began milling natural stone down to 8mm and laminating it onto a lighter, rigid backing, and we have since refined the process thinner still. Our 8MM gangsaw slices a block into many thin slabs in a single pass; each is then bonded to glass, wood, metal or another substrate chosen for the application, and cut to the design rather than to the block.
What stays is everything that makes a stone worth choosing — its veining, its depth, its colour. Onyx laminated this thin carries light through its patterns, so a bar front or a tabletop can glow from within. And because each block yields more slabs, rare stones reach further: by our own figures, 40% more slabs from a single block, and 40% more cost efficiency on expensive stones.
